Chronic osteomyelitis of the hand by Mycobacterium kansasii in an immunocompromised patient

چکیده
Atypical mycobacteria are pathogens that uncommonly infect the hand. These organisms capable of causing extensive bone damage in Mycobacterium kansasii is a slow growing non-tuberculous Mycobacterium. It second most common mainly affects hand and joints. Immunosuppressed patients more likely to develop infection. Because extrapulmonary involvement M. rare, skin soft tissue infections infrequent; osteomyelitis even rarer. A history trauma frequent. There delay diagnosis antibiotics have been given with no response. Imaging studies recommended diagnostic approach, magnetic resonance imaging being best option show involvement. Infected culture has greater sensitivity for diagnosis. Treatment musculoskeletal consists multiple susceptibility-based antiretroviral therapy HIV coinfection, combined surgical management incision drainage.

Osteomyelitis due to Mycobacterium kansasii in a patient with sarcoidosis
A 45-year-old male presented with severe pain in his left foot. His medical history included stage IV biopsy-proven pulmonary sarcoidosis diagnosed six years earlier, with negative acid-fast stain in lymph node biopsy and bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) fluid. Recently, despite 10 mg prednisolone daily, a positron emission tomography/computer tomography (PET/CT) scan had suggested increased sarcoi...
متن کاملAmebic osteomyelitis in an immunocompromised patient
Acanthamoeba spp. are pathogenic protozoa that are uncommonly encountered. They tend to infect immunocompromised patients, most often causing cutaneous lesions and in some instances granulomatous amebic encephalitis, as well as rare instances of dissemination to other organs. We present a case of amebic osteomyelitis of the fibula in a patient with rejection of a transplanted kidney who was chr...
متن کاملMycobacterium kansasii osteomyelitis – a masquerading disease
Introduction Non-tuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) are environmental bacteria capable of causing an opportunistic myriad of infections. Mycobacterium kansasii, one such NTM, is responsible for causing pulmonary disease in immunocompromised patients. Rare extrapulmonary manifestations such as lymphadenitis, osteoarticular manifestations, and skin and soft tissue infections are also observed. Case...
متن کاملIsolated Mycobacterium kansasii wound infection and Osteomyelitis in an immunocompetent patient
Mycobacterium kansasii is a slow growing acid-fast non-tuberculosis mycobacterium. It most commonly causes pulmonary disease with tuberculosis-like manifestations. Mycobacterium kansasii-induced skin and soft tissue infections (SSTIs) are very uncommon, especially in the absence of obvious risk factors. In this report, we present a rare case of M. kansasii-associated SSTI complicated by tendoni...

Paecilomyces sp, is a saprophytic fungus which has rarely been associated with human disease. We report the first case of invasive subcutaneous infection caused by this fungus in a 78-year-old female from Damghan, Iran, with diabetes and chronic renal failure. A biopsy provided an initial diagnosis of the mold in tissue. Multiple positive fungal cultures which were obtained from the biopsie...
